MEET THE DESERTAIRES
Barbershop Harmony Society Chapter D-101
Sun City, Arizona

For our 2009 Annual Show, the DesertAires presented "Remember When" with songs from several decades of Barbershop Harmony.  Our featured Guest Quartet was the Championship level "Happiness Emporium", one of the longest continuously performing Quartets in the Barbershop Harmony Society.  They shared the Stage with 'Sound Agreement' (Recent Div 5 Novice Champions) of the Spirit of Phoenix Chapter.  Our own 'Slo Motion' and 'Sun Cities School Board' Quartets rounded out the play bill of the Show.  The participants received a standing ovation from the audiences.

Our organization is dedicated to the preservation of the music style  known as  Barbershop  Harmony.  Although our average age is 76 years young, and our oldest member is 87, we strive to entertain and educate the West Valley about the music of the heralded "Tin Pan Alley " days.  Appearing at several Sun City Events annually, and at  care facilities and social centers.  We enjoy entertaining those who want to listen to great A'Cappella singing.  If you haven't had the opportunity to hear us, drop in on one of our meetings.

Originating in September 1976 with just eight men wanting to sing four-part harmony, the group grew over the years to its present 71 members with the title of Desert Aires Barbershop Chorus.  The chorus joined the 'Barbershop Harmony Society' (formerly S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A), receiving its charter in May of 1996, as the Sun Cities Chapter D-101.

The Chorus has presented annual concerts for twenty-nine consecutive years, and has performed hundreds of times for various groups, as well as donating performances for charitable organizations and the Sun Cities Recreation Centers functions.  They have contributed substantial amounts to local charities each year.

Under the leadership of their Director, Jerry Roland the Chorus is achieving new heights in performance levels, the Chorus Won Plateau A at the Far Western District Division 5 competition in April 2009.  Jerry Roland, in his second year as Director has extensive directing experience, and has been a boon to the Chapter.

Men who love to sing are invited to join the Chorus any Tuesday afternoon at 12:30pm, at the Sun City Christian Church, located at 98th Avenue and Palmeras Drive in Sun City.
